Lex Joon
Amsterdam-born Lex Joon established Lex Joon Racing (LJR) in 1995 with his wife, Gerda; award-winning equestrian, team manager and co-crew chief.
Driven by the team’s mantra, “Never Quit,” Lex and Gerda won countless events, set multiple records, and captured the FIA 2005 Drag Racing Championship in less than 10 years racing Top Alcohol Funny Cars and Top Fuel dragsters. As a result, Lex Joon was Europe’s Most Successful Top Fuel Racer between 2005 and 2009.
After a near-fatal wheel stand in 2005, his new moniker became, “The Flying Dutchman.”
The Joons moved to “America’s Drag Racing Capital,” Brownsburg Indiana, to pursue their ultimate goals – – – to become American citizens and win NHRA Top Fuel Dragster Championships.
With a laser focus on achieving their second American dream, Gerda is now the NHRA’s only active female Top Fuel co-crew chief after training with championship tuners Lance Larson, Rob Flynn, and close family friend and NHRA Hall of Fame inductee, Lee Beard.
Together, Lex and Gerda have become fan favorites with their “Never Quit” attitude.
